Public Safety and the People's Budget

by WXIR News

(WXIR-Rochester) We recently teamed up with artist Rashaad Parker and the Rochester Contemporary Art Center for a new vox pop series called "ROC City Speaks: The Anti-Media Narrative."

For our first edition, we spoke with participants at last weekend's Black Lives Matter rally in MLK Park. Among other things, we asked them:

  • What does public safety mean to you?

  • What would your ideal city budget look like?

A few days later Rochester City Council passed a roughly $530 million budget for the coming fiscal year, including almost $100 million for policing. You can read more about that here.

You'll be able to catch more of the conversation soon on the sidewalk in front of the Rochester Contemporary Art Center, where they'll be on loop on the big screen.
