That’s one of things residents of Rochester's Clarissa Street Neighborhood remember hearing before everything changed.
And it’s one of the haunting lines from "Monologues on Clarissa Street," by Karen Culley.
Reclaiming the Narrative recently spoke with Reuben Tapp, the director of an upcoming production of the Monologues, about the challenges of recreating the history of that once-vibrant African American neighborhood, and the lessons it holds for Rochester’s gentrifying communities today.
