(WXIR-Rochester) Last October, public school teachers in the Boston suburb of Dedham decided to go out on strike for better working conditions.
Massachusetts state law prohibits public teachers from striking and, like in New York, violating that law carries penalties of fines and jail time.
Barbara Madeloni covered the Dedham teachers strike for Labor Notes.
She’s also the former president of the Massachusetts Teachers Association.
Reclaiming the Narrative's Darien Lamen recently spoke with her about how educators in her state turned their unions into a lean, mean, austerity-fighting machine... and about how Rochester City Schools might mobilize against mid-year cuts here.
