ROCHESTER, NY--Livestreamed public meetings have been a boon to citizen journalists like us here at Reclaiming the Narrative, who often aren’t able to attend in-person meetings of Rochester City Council and other elected bodies due to work and child care responsibilities.
With in-person meetings likely to resume in the coming months after Monroe County lifts the COVID state of emergency, reporter Laura Smith looks at whether local elected bodies are planning to continue livestreaming their meetings, and what the implications are for both transparency and civic participation.
She recently spoke with City Council Member Mary Lupien about her perspective on the remote meeting process.
